MailChimp implements top class email marketing services, with features and integrations that enable users to automate their messaging operations and effective execute targeted campaigns.

Launched in 2001, MailChimp now sends more than 10 billion emails through its services. The email marketing platform is developed by Rocket Science Group, the creator of other popular mobile and web-based marketing tools and applications such as Mandrill, AlterEgo, and Wavelength.

Among the features that comes with a MailChimp subscription are email personalization and automation, advanced analytics, subscriber profiling, email template designer, email client testing, geolocation, and spam filter diagnostics as well as a throng of intuitive and responsive apps. It also integrates with other web systems and online business applications and programs such as SalesForce, WordPress, Magento, Survey Monkey and Shopify to name a few.

MailChimp has two pricing options and one free version, with each plan suited to cater to specific number of email subscribers a user has on their emailing list. A trial version is also available, allowing people to get a feel of what MailChimp can do for their business without any monetary commitment.

While MailChimp is the best and the most popular name in the email marketing landscape, there are other email marketing solutions out there that can deliver the goods as well. Check out the four great alternatives to MailChimp listed below.

1. GetResponse


Filled to the brim with useful features, GetResponse is more than adequate to address most email marketing requirements of any business, individual, and organization. While it does not have its own set of social media sharing tools like MailChimp, GetResponse offers up to 5 split testing, 3 more than MailChimp and the most number any email marketing vendor provides.  GetResponse also has a QR code generator, and a landing page creator, which is something not many of its competition offers.

GetResponse also grows along with the business. Initially, it is best suited for small to medium sized enterprises but its scalability makes it a great tool for expanding businesses. The best part is that GetResponse is a whole lot cheaper than MailChimp.

But there is a downside. GetResponse does not easily integrate with high level software.

2. Constant Contact


For small businesses and startups, Constant Contact is a great option. It is a cost effective tool with a very flexible pricing setup where the rates are based on the number of email contacts. But what makes Constant Contact really special is that they strive to provide the extra effort to help their users become more proficient with the system by conducting live webinars, classes, and day-long courses. Plus, the team is constantly working to make Constant Contact very intuitive.

But Constant Contact is not without flaws. First, it does not offer split testing, which is quite a huge factor for many marketers as they tend to test their campaigns prior to launching them. Second, the campaign features are quite rough on the edges and require dramatic tweaking. Third, their mobile app is currently compatible with iOS only.

3. Emma


Ideal for start ups, Emma comes with a feature-rich package that starts at $30 per month for 1,000 emails. Many describe Emma as a very modern email marketing platform, which boasts of 40 professional-looking email templates. And for those who want a very personalized template without losing that professional feel, Emma delivers that as well. Emma is also loaded with awesome reporting tools, which provide users with actionable insights.

However, those customized email templates can cost users a big chunk off their budget. Another downside is that Emma does not offer A/B testing, which is a real bummer to many email marketing professionals.

4. AWeber


If you are running a small business that relies on email marketing but you do not have the time nor the manpower to man your own email campaigns, then AWeber is a great fit. For just $19 per month for up to 500 contacts, AWeber is a godsend. Users can browse through their library of over 700 email templates, all of which are designed to look professional and project that executive aura. Plus, AWeber offers four split testings, which is something many of its competition do not provide.

The major flaw of this otherwise cash-strapped user friendly email marketing tool is its data importation, which can be very iffy most of the time.
